How do I recalibrate my hygrometer?
What is the recommended indoor humidity level for homes?

According to ASHREA (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Engineers) a good range is between 30% and 60% relative humidity. A wider range, from a low 25% to a high of 80%, can be acceptable for thermal comfort (your comfort level). It would depend on the type of clothing worn and your level of physical activity.

How can I determine what the humidity levels are in my home?

You can measure humidity levels with a relative humidity sensor, usually referred to as a hygrometer.

What is a hygrometer?

A hygrometer is a device that measures the amount of humidity in a particular area.

Can I use a humidifier in the same room as an air purifier?

Absolutely!

Can I use Scents/Fragrances in my portable humidifier?

Yes, we recommend using “Splash Scents” Humidifier Fragrances.  Simply add to the water in manually filled evaporative humidifiers. Unlike typical scented candles or plug-in fresheners, the scents work with your humidifier. Humidity and a refreshing scent are carried throughout the house.

  • However, Splash Scents Humidifier Fragrances are not for use in vaporizers or ultrasonic humidifiers
What is the average life of a wick filter?

This highly depends on usage, and the hardness of your water. At the minimum, we recommend you replace your filter every 2-4 months.

Why is the wick filter changing colors or turning brown?

As long as the wick is still wet all the way through and water usage is normal, the wick is still good. Wick filters help to trap impurities that are in the water. The more impurities and minerals are trapped, the more the filter will change color.

Can I reuse a wick filter?

No, you cannot reuse your wick filters; they are used to trap impurities in the water. After one use, the wick filters should be discarded.

Can the quality of my water effect the life of my filter?

Absolutely, the harder your water is, the shorter the life of the filter. If you have very hard water, your filters will probably need to be changed more frequently.

Why is there a film on the tank of my humidifier?

More than likely, mineral deposits are collecting on the tank. Clean the humidifier tank with a cleaner/descaler. We highly recommend the BestAir Humidi-Clean for cleaning of the tank.

Why can’t I use my bacteriostatic in my ultrasonic humidifier or vaporizer?

The water will mist out of the ultrasonic/vaporizer and the chemical will then mist into the air. In an evaporative type, there is no mist.

I’ve only had my humidifier filter for 2 weeks and it’s already clogged, shouldn’t it last longer than 2 weeks?

It depends on their water quality

My humidifier filter is discolored on the part that faces the top, is this normal?

Yes, sometimes the filter will get dry because it is not wicking all the way through.

I put my water pad in and it has a bad chemical/burnt odor, what is causing this odor?

Sometimes the pads are baked too long in the ovens and it can cause it to smell. We will send you a new one.

My filter won’t wick. What can I do to get it to wick?

Try dipping it in warm, soapy water and rinse it well. Water will not pass any heavy calcium build up

My paper pad is falling apart inside my humidifier; the guy in the store didn’t tell me it would fall apart after a few months.

The paper pad needs to be changed every 90 days

I don’t think I have bad water, why is my filter clogged already?

Even though you have filtered water it may not filter out all of the minerals that are in it. You could try using humid treat for your mineral build up

Why is there a black mark on my water pad? Will that black mark harm me? Will that chemical be extracted into the air?

No, the product used to make that mark will not harm you or be extracted into the air

Treatments: why are these caps so small? I have shaky hands and it is really hard for me to pour a capful into my humidifier.

Recommend them to use a measuring cup and then wash it well afterwards

Do you carry the black pleat spacers for my Aprilaire Unit?

No, you will have to call Aprilaire directly at 800-334-6011

I bought an SGM and I’m short (QTY) Pleats…..?

We will send you out a new one. The pleats are counted by hand and sometimes by human error get counted wrong.

Do you ship to Canada?

No, but you can find our products at Canadian Tire, Lowes, Sears or Amazon.com

What direction does the arrow point on my furnace filter when installing?

The arrow should point towards the furnace, not away.

What is the difference between a A35 and a A35W?

The A35 is a metal pad that is dipped in clay and can last up to a year and the A35W is a paper pad with aluminum to help hold its shape and lasts up to 90 days. The paper pad puts more moisture into the air and helps more with allergies.
